As of this moment, the Big 10 has 12 members, and the Big 12 has 10 members.
Go Big Red.

And the Pac-10 has 11.
And, when it comes to football, there’s nothing “Big” about the Big East.
The Big East is basketball-primary, and we throw at least one or two teams out there a year that are good enough to win a BCS bowl. That’s all we’re asking for out of football, so it works just fine.
Not to mention the fact they think Boulder is on the PACific.
Well if you have two Arizona schools on the Pacific, Boulder isn’t much of a stretch, is it?
Well at least they are on the Pacific side of the continental divide.
Huh. I would have guessed that Nebraska was already in the Big Ten. And I’m a student at Michigan. I’m clearly paying very close attention.
And Boulder is West of the Mississippi River.
Nebraska has been accepted into the Big Ten. Word now is that Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will join the Pac-10. Texas A&M is probably going to the Pac-10 but is considering an offer from the SEC, as is Oklahoma. After all that talk, it’s going to be kind of an anticlimax that none of these changes will go into effect this season. But I assume other changes will follow, and that a lot more will be made after the 2010-11 season.
Heard a rumor on ESPN radio that some members of the Board of whatever runs Texas are partial to the SEC, and some contacts have been made.
This would make the most sense to me, if Texas decides to move. I keep hearing that there is legislation in the state that requires A&M, Tech and maybe Baylor? to move with Texas.
Not sure if that is true, however, since I’ve also heard that Texas is considering going the independent route.
Here’s an interesting logo idea if the Big Ten chooses to expand to 16.
If you just analyze the rumors over the last week and the ones that have come true, it seems like a pretty sure thing that Texas and others are going to Pac16.
I don’t think Chip Brown has been wrong yet, and now I just read another source confirming that Oklahoma will follow Texas on Tuesday to Pac16.
SEC only appears to be a possibility for A&M and even that seems unlikely (based on the analysis I’m reading, I don’t really have any inside information).
I think the PAC-16 needs Texas and Oklahoma more than the SEC does. The SEC is already loaded with powerhouse teams. The PAC 10 is kinda thin at the top. And if they don’t get those two teams, who else could they get at that level? I don’t see Notre Dame in a PAC16. Boise State just joined the Mountain West. If there were objections to Baylor as a religious school, I’m guessing Brigham Young is a non-starter…
That said, I think the SEC is going to expand. Really curious about who they might pick up…
I can assure you that Texas is going to the Pac-16 with Texas Tech, o.u., and OSU. You can bet on that. The interesting wrinkle is that crazy Gene Stallings, who was appointed to the A&M board of regents by former Aggie yell-leader (yep, that’s a man-cheerleader) and current Governor Rick “Hair” Perry is pushing the invitation to the SEC. Ags are seriously considering it.
I kind of want it to happen, because it will be the craziest event in Texas politics in quite some time. I think the end result is that Rick Perry gets run out of office on a rail. He’ll be the governor that appointed the kook that ended arguably the biggest intrastate collegiate rivalry. If the Aggies don’t play the Longhorns at Thanksgiving, people’s lives will not be the same. Trust me on that.
Y’all outside of Texas probably think that’s crazy talk, but could you imagine Auburn not playing Alabama in the Iron Bowl?
Of course this is a lose-lose for A&M, but being Aggies, they actually think this is a good move for them. They’re a low-tiered Big 12 school that will get killed in the SEC. It just gives the SEC a foothold in Texas, which allows those better SEC schools to poach the top talent. Why would you sign with A&M when you could sign with LSU or Bama?
Add Colorado, and that’s a PAC15, but who gets the last spot if A&M doesn’t take it?
Baylor???
Indeed, Brown has been on the ball every step of the way and hasn’t backed down from anything.
Utah. Brings in the Salt Lake City market and they’ve been ready both academically and athletically for years now. ETA: Provided the Texas legislature doesn’t pin Baylor on UT’s coattails.
Baseball’s Pacific Coast League includes Omaha and New Orleans. What’s the problem?
Some stories say Utah. That would fill the map in a little, anyway.
