I love the Stones but their late 90’s single “Anybody Seen My Baby” was a horror show. Not only was a weak song that had its melody lifted subconsciously from k.d. lang (who sued and is now honored as a co-writer) but it sampled RAP music in the middle 8. Ugghhh. Jagger is simply trying way too hard to seem relevant and in the process stunk this song to high heaven. Embarrassing really. ---

Roky Erickson is worshipped as a god on my homeworld; however,much though I revere every other piece in Roky’s \*ouevre \*,I cannot abide this one song,“Burn The Flames” from _Don’t Slander Me._ It’s way too silly and ponderous sounding, and he makes some of the worst rhymes in his career as a lyricist. And it’s also the song that people who are just slightly acquainted with Roky tend to say is their favorite ---

Boooooo!! Van Hagar rules! It’s like Van Halen, except with singing and hooks and stuff. Yeah, I know, the original lineup was groundbreaking and different, but the gag stopped working sometime around Fair Warning. Van Halen had the right idea on 1984 and an even better idea to just stop working with Roth entirely and get a more traditional frontman. ---

IIRC, I bought their album on the strength of that song. The rest of it made me realize that they were not the kind of group that would make a habit of singing beautiful harmonies like that. ---

They also approached jazz bassist Jeff Berlin when Michael Anthony left. :dubious: That would have been as drastic a mismatch as Les Claypool being in Metallica (he auditioned after Cliff Burton’s death 😛 ). My favorite Patty Smyth factoid? Her first husband was Lester Myers, AKA Richard Hell. They met at a record industry function and married a few months later - and until they met, neither had ever heard of the other one. :eek: She had never followed the punk scene, and he didn’t watch MTV or listen to Top 40 radio. Not surprisingly, the marriage lasted barely long enough to produce their only child. ---

Chicago’s Hard For Me To Say I’m Sorry. They went from a funk-rock band to Air Supply. And I am not ashamed to say I like Air Supply-- we all need songs to belt out in the shower. But we don’t need Chicago to turn to bubble gum sap. Grrrr! ---

Some of y’all are just hating on metal bands’ ballads. (Which is find if you like hard rock and don’t like the slow songs, but I think it kinda goes against the spirit of this thread.) Also, Bennie and the Jets is worse than Crocodile Rock? :dubious: I’ll make the obvious pick for everybody (including the band themselves): Cherry Pie by Warrant. ---
