Well then, I fully expect my grandchildren to attend a Skynyrd show fronted by the yet unborn ‘Unnamed-at-this-time’ Van Zant offspring, somewhere around 2060.

Cher did a retirement tour also.

Not only that but you wouldn’t be a very good fan if you sued them. It would have to be a class action lawsuit AND plaintiffs would have to prove they actually paid to see the show, harder than you think since it was 4-5 years ago and you don’t still have the tickets.

Maybe an Attorney General could make a case for false advertising but depending on the band they might not get re-elected!

Another legal problem might be legally defining what a “retirement” is.

Maybe they made it up as part of the advertising? It’s illegal to lie in court but, so far as I know, it’s not illegal to lie about being in court.

OTOH, if you name your concert “The final tour” or something along those lines, you could claim you were on the final tour. They could even quietly release an album called ‘the final tour’ so they could claim the tour was in support of their new album.

Their latest tour, 38 years later is billed as the “Movin’ On” Tour, which to some may imply a retirement tour. But at this point they are going to sell out arenas and stadiums anyway why continue the silliness?

The question is did Ace and Peter know that?

Or Charlie. Charlie cannot be replaced. Bill Wyman could be replaced, obviously, and probably Ronnie, too (not to mention Brian Jones and Mick Taylor), but not Charlie.

Right. That’s why I predict that the end of the Rolling Stones will be announced when either Mick, Keith or Charlie keel over.

The advanced biology and chemistry to produce a Keith Richards clone has yet to be invented.

I would honestly love to see one of these lawsuits go forward and have the winning argument from the band be “Of course it was our final tour. Every tour is the final tour until you do another one. Then that one’s the final tour.”

Could be the promoter said that they’d invest a ton of money into a farewell tour, but the band had to promise they wouldn’t go on the road again in exchange. Just spitballing here.

Darn that Rush. Those three just don’t play by the rules.

Hinted that they were getting on in years. Did a tour and then after it was over announced they were done and have consistently not toured since.

Stupid Canadians. Keeping their word and all.

I don’t go to these types of concerts because, as an example, Deep Purple is not what they used to be. If you didn’t see them in 1973 then you will never be able to see them in 1973. You missed your chance. I have their Australia live recording and other than Steve Morse’s fine guitar playing, Ian Gillan is too old to keep doing those types of vocals, and Jon Lord’s chops were disintegrating. And that was 20 years ago.
