# Biggest surprise from your parents.

Well, I was shocked to learn my parents got married after knowing each other for three months. And not because they had to. Also, apparently, my mother did the proposing.

I didn’t know until I was in college that my dad started out working in the construction field and he would have made a career of that. It was his co-workers who talked him into going to college to take art classes. He went to college and never left (went to grad school, became a professor).

I found out, at the tender age of 38, that my Dad prays nightly. He has a regular set of prayers he cycles through according to the day of the week. My parents were very “go your own way” and quiet about spirituality and religious beliefs and I had absolutely no idea he prayed regularly. I wasn’t even sure he believed in God.
