Bill Clinton: net positive or net negative for Hillary?

So Hillary did better than she otherwise would have done in 2008 thanks to his attacks on Obama?

Just get used to hearing “Madame President” and “First Gentleman” for the next eight years, OK? You’ll stop puking after awhile.

I’ll be fine. Just seeing Obama leave the White House to be replaced by competent people will be joy enough. Besides, the Clintons don’t offend me in the same way Obama does. They make no secret about who they are: entitled, in it for the cash and affirmation, and willing to say anything, sell anyone out, if it’s good for the Clintons.

Obama, on the other hand, was an insufferable, off the shelf Chicago politician(Clinton’s words), who presented himself as something he wasn’t and used a false image of himself to beat much better leaders in both parties. We would have been much better off with Clinton in office these past eight years. Better late than never I guess, although I’d still rather have a Republican. But as I keep saying, we can do business with the Clintons.

That Secretary of State he had was a total disaster, wasn’t she?

Can, yes, but … won’t. Just like the last seven years.

Obama is insufferable and more prone to having redlines he won’t cross. Hillary Clinton calls a lot of Republican Senators her friends, whereas Obama had few friends even among Democrats.

Plus you eluded the question of whether Clinton’s attacks on Obama were beneficial to HIllary in 2008. I figure almost every Democrat has tried to forget all that. Democrats hating the Clintons was much cooler when there was a young, charismatic Senator for an alternative. Back then they were even calling Bill racist. It was funny stuff, you guys should jog your memories.

Really?

Let me see if I can guess your party affiliation.

To you. We know. And we know why, too.

You also knock him for doing nothing, and always caving. Depends on how long ago you had your last cup of coffee, doesn’t it?

Since you claim to be serious: I don’t think it made a lick of difference.

How about a little help, citewise?

She will eventually become recognised as Great Mother of the Nation, but I’m thinking Todd will soon be a’pining for the white wastelands of his native state.

Who has said that? He did more than just attack Obama. Do you think that was all he did in '08? He didn’t have other rallies? He didn’t personally lobby other supporters/fence-sitters?

Adding it all up, I don’t think it’s reasonable at all to think that she would have done better had Bill Clinton stayed home and done nothing.

This is just more of the same batshit insane fantasy-world stuff about Obama from right-wing fantasy-land.

Why can’t he just be a smart, charismatic, well-meaning politician who you just disagree with on a lot of issues? Why do you have such personal, intense hatred of the guy, when he’s mostly governed as he campaigned? According to the fact-checkers and promise-checkers, he’s done much, much better than most politicians on trying to keep his campaign promises.

What actions of his were so terrible?

Can I get a Sarah Palin totem pole somewhere? If it could be a combination bird feeder/totem pole, I would SO buy one. What a conversation-starter!

Positive. I’m relatively young compared to other voters but I’m sure a lot of older voters (45+) have fond memories of the 90s. A growing economy, peace and stability, the US’s reputation was doing well. This was all before the Bush admin, the war on terror, 9/11, the 2008 economic collapse, the nakedness of the oligarchy that runs the country, etc

The question was asked. I answered it. I stand by my answer. We may disagree. So be it.

Let’s start with promising Latino voters an immigration reform bill that he never had any intention of submitted while it actually had a chance to pass. It was never a high priority with him, but he made an ironclad promise at a Univision debate.

Then there’s the individual mandate, which he used to beat Clinton over the head. That’s some cynical shit right there from Mr. Hope and Change.

I guess I wouldn’t have been too upset about those kinds of things if he hadn’t been the hope and change guy. The last thing our system needed was more cynicism than it already had, but he managed to add to it.

well said (the words I didn’t delete) is how I feel. Moderate/Conservative Dems like me also yearn for the Clintons and hate what Barack Hussein Obama did to take Hillary’s nomination away in 2008.

to add on, while I think Obama’s economic and environmental policies have been great, he engaged the culture wars in a way Hillary wouldn’t have in 2008, and sadly, Hillary can’t really buck his line on transvestites and Trayvon/Zimmerman, but at least unlike him, she’s an American exceptionalist, and honours Israel more than he does. She and Bill are cultural left-at-center (not far-left) at heart, unlike Obama.

If it were Obama vs. Rubio this year, I’d go Rubio in a second. Or if it were Obama vs. Trump, Trump.

You really think he didn’t want immigration reform? What possible motive? It would have been a huge political boon for him and the party.

As for the mandate, yes, it was cynical politics. Are you the only one in America who thought Obama wasn’t a politician? Every candidate promises hope and change. In my view, he’s done a far, far better job meeting this than most: his policy on Iran and Cuba, not to mention most of the middle east, really have been enormously different and new.

Really weak criticisms. There’s something personal you don’t like about this guy, and it’s not about immigration or hope and change, I think.

What policy on transvestites? And what evidence do you have that Obama is not an American exceptionalist? He’s praised our country quite profusely, and even personally, since his first campaign. He’s even said that it’s the only country in which his story is even possible.

If you’d pick Rubio, than that means you really, really want another war in the middle east.

Net positive.

Bill Clinton is a fantastic speaker. He’s way better than Obama with all of the uhhs and umms. The cheers at the DNC introducing Hillary will be magnificent and add some wattage to her spotlight.

It wasn’t a priority though. He promised it would be.

Analyzing him strictly on policy, he’s been better than GWB. And no, not every politician promises what he promised. He brought out a lot of new voters that Clinton did not, especially young voters. They really thought they were voting for something more than a mainstream Democratic politician. You knew what we were getting, I knew what we were getting, but people who hadn’t been around and didn’t know what to look for got fooled.

The guy has an obvious disdain for people who don’t agree with him. I return that disdain. And I’m not even a bitter clinger. Those people are really holding a grudge.

Senator Bullitt? Is that you? Or Sec of State Bullitt?
Oh, no, wait – you’re the Pope! Awesome. Have you had any trouble scoring good yerba mate in Rome?
