Mods and Friends, I’ve ditched the ill-chosen handle **billehunt**. While it is a fine moniker in real life, on-line it gets read by 90% of the populance as **Billy** and the other 10% as **Bile**. I’m not sure which is worse, the name my grandmother calls me or a gastric secretion, tough call. After much contemplation, I have rejected the idea of changing my real-life name to Bile, and instead will now be known on-line as simply **Bill**. TubaDiva, please destroy the remnants of my former life; I am ready to be reborn. I have accepted Cecil as my personal savant. ---

Tip-of-the-day: state in your sig that you were billehunt, at least for a few weeks or so. That ought to educate the masses 😉 ---

Factoid from somewhere: somebody did a survey and asked people which one-syllable male nickname said “reliable” most consistently, and “Bill” was the top of the list, ahead of all the others like Fred, Ted, Tom, Bob, etc. I don’t think billehunt was “ill-chosen”, you just didn’t realize the possibilities of case-sensitivity. BillEHunt might have been better, hindsight being 20/20, but hey, there’s a certain snap to plain “Bill”. Welcome to the Straight Dope! 😃 I agree with Coldfire, you probably ought to mention it in your sig for a couple of days at least. ---

Wait, wait, wait just a damn minute. Bill, with a leading space on your handle, and Lumpy Pants, both of you need to e-mail the SD administration immediately clear up the name changes. The approved method for changing user names is to mail TubaDiva, CKDextHavn, and/or Lynn Bodoni **prior to getting new names.** We have more than enough impersonators out there right now; you guys don’t want to get confused with the sock puppet parade, do you? It’s possible, if you are caught in the crossfire with unapproved name changes, to be banned without warning. I’m sure neither of you want that to happen. We don’t want it to happen either. I don’t understand Bill’s problem either. When I searched for Bill I got Bill Clinton and Bill Anderson, and Bill Ellison, who would seem to be able to coexist okay. That’s why Bill is such a common name- so many people have it. Since it was clearly Bill when I signed on, what was the problem there? ---

Bill H., why did you create a new name instead of having the mods change your old user name? You could have keep your post count that way and more importantly your profile would show when you joined the board. Now people are going to confuse you for a newbie, even with you stating who you were in your sigline. I would recommend you email the mods to change your billehunt user name to something else like BillEHunt and have them kill your new Bill H. account. ---

**Wanderer** , Thanks for the thought. I created a new name because I didn’t know any better. In hindsight, your suggestion would’ve been the better way to go. (It also would’ve made our hostess happier, and I appreciate the patience of TubaDiva). But now it’s done and I’m happy. To tell you the truth, the benefit of a high post count and low install date means nothing to me. Maybe the newbie appearance will make me work harder to add actual content to posts. ---

Well, things have gotten so bad, paranoia-wise, that I actually looked over at “Uncle Beer’s” post count and registration date to make sure it was the right one, that I hadn’t fallen into some kind of David Lynch movie, where all the sock puppets go around confirming each other’s existence. Bill H., maybe you’d better put Unc’s official confirmation (and maybe a thread link) into your sig, too, for a few days. Sign me, SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED ---
