Despite his having been out of office for a couple of years now, most of the intelligence and military capabilty that eventually resulted in bin-Laden’s being found was developed during Bush’s time in office. ---

The US is at war with Al Qaeda (Congress passed an Authorization for Military Force stating the military could be used against Al Qaeda) and OBL is a member of Al Qaeda. Therefore, in a war you can kill your enemy as a measure of first resort. You don’t need to try and capture the enemy first. I started a thread asking this same question in Great Debates (“Was Killing Osama bin Laden Lawful?”) ---

Osama was a nasty piece of work, but this is tribalism at its ugliest. If Obama or Bush were killed these same people would be devastated, even though they’ve killed far more innocents than ObL. ---
