He deserved no honors, but he doesn’t deserve having his body desecrated, either. I believe in showing the world we can even treat our enemies without gratuitous disrespect. But I can’t help but thinking we flushed him like a common goldfish. He didn’t deserve any better than that. And his death doesn’t deserve quiet contemplation on our part, either. We gave our reverence and our silence to the victims in the days after 9/11. They were more deserving of it. ---

I don’t believe that all the celebrants were there for the sake of second-hand blood lust and macho posturing. Some significant portion of the crowd gathered to express the joy that only justice can releases. And a roughly equal percentage were guys looking to get laid. (Hey, it’s life-affirming). ---
