Yeah, but it wasn’t that much, really. We are a nation of better than 300 million, we never, ever act as one mind. And not all that raucus, compared to celebrations of a home team winnning some major sports event. I still recall the anarcy and wild abandon that resulted from the Minnesota Twins winning the World Series. There were car horns honking at one o’clock in the morning!! When Lutherans go wild… ---

North Koreans get rid of Kim. Dance in the street. Germany liberated from Nazis. Dance in the street. ObL was dangerous. He was instrumental in killing thousands of Americans for his own crazy reasons. But he wasn’t some kind of existential threat to us, and the fact that he’s dead doesn’t mean one thing is going to change in how we live our lives. We’ll still be taking our shoes off at airports. We’ll still be worried about al Qaeda not only in Pakistan, but in Yemen, Somalia, and lost of other places. It’s much more symbolic than meaningful. ---
