I’m having my thyroid biopsied Monday. Not a needle biopsy, the cut me open, yank it out and look at it kind. I had a scan a couple of weeks ago that showed that a mass on my thyroid has some of the properties of cancer, but there’s still an 80% chance that it isn’t. Even if it is, it’s very curable. My level of anxiety about the surgery itself is pretty high. I’m a little freaked out about having my throat cut open. There’s a lot of stuff that I use in there! They will be doing a frozen section while I’m still out so they’ll know right away if it’s cancerous. I have to admit that the thought of everyone in the OP standing around and tapping their feet while I’m lying there with my neck cut open waiting on the biopsy is sort of amusing. Anyway- I’m (probably unnecessarily) very nervous and I have planned a lot of housecleaning and other activities over the weekend to keep me occupied. ---

Don’t worry about the operation itself, I had my parathyroids rummaged about with a few years ago while just sedated and with a local and other than the anasthetologist needing better jokes it was a snap. The only thing you should concern yourself with is the possible tumor. Here’s hoping it is a benign growth of some sort and nothing serious! ---

Thanks, all. My surgeon’s office called me yesterday to remind me that I have surgery Monday (!) and to ask if I have any last-minute questions about anything. I found that to be very reassuring. ---
