So I’m working hard to be the world’s greatest uncle. I value the title of “favorite uncle” but my sister is guilting me hard into trying to get to Atlanta for my neice’s birthday. There is a very slim chance that I would make it up there, financially it isn’t feasible, nor does it jive with my new job(s). Now I need you all to help me brainstorm gifts that would make the coolest uncle ever. My neice has a love of dinosaurs and _gag_ Sponge-bob square-pants. So I beseech the Staight Dope hive mind, help me find the great gift! - IG ---

[/QUOTE] Yeah, I would’ve hated you so much when I was 7 if I like dinosaurs and you gave me something pink and sparkly. I would say two gifts: something tangible (book about dinos, maybe?) and either cold hard cash (and don’t be stingy… at least $25) or a gift certificate somewhere cool, maybe like the discovery channel store… ---

Maybe two Tamagotchis. They are virtual pets and can communicate with each toher to play games and exchange gifts. They grow up and get married, etc. ---

Give her [this](http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/item/books-978076362228/0763622281/Encyclopedia+Prehistorica+Dinosaurs+The+Definitive+Pop+Up?ref=Search+Books%3a+'pop+up+dinosaur') book - my mom bought it last year and loves it. When she goes back to teaching in class (she’s working in a resource team this year) she’ll be using it during the dinosaur theme month she does in her grade 2 class. The pop-ups are so amazing, and the information seems up-to-date too, from the little I know about dinosaurs. The [amazon](http://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-Prehistorica-Dinosaurs-Definitive-Pop-Up/dp/0763622281) link has page images to give you an idea of what it looks like. When my mom and I saw it in the store, there was only one copy at the time, but we were practically fighting over which one of us could get it - and I don’t even have kids, nor do I teach!
