Black Berets for everyone in the Army

OK, you’ve got me on the dungarees (although have you seen the new ones?), but as far as dress uniforms go, the Navy looks pretty cool. At least for guys; womens’ uniforms have a ways to go in all services.

I can’t say much for the hat, but the bell bottoms actually serve a practical purpose for someone on a ship. If you fall overboard, the bellbottoms are easier to get off in the water, and then you have the extra material at the bottom of the pant legs to tie shut, fill with air, and then use the pants to float.

USAF uniforms look like shit though. And I used to wear one. I remember going to Camp Lejeune (a Marine base) and thinking how piss poor our dress uniforms looked compared to theirs.

Yeah, but the Marine dress uniform is just a sharp-looking outfit. And they get swords. Somehow they got lucky and got the cool duds. Go fig.

The Marines look pretty cool as well, but really only their full-dress uniforms, and not so much the service dress uniforms. All services have swords, though, but the Marines are the only one that allow non-commissioned officers to have one (although it is a different one from the officers’ sword). The Air Force sword makes me think “…by the power of Greyskull…”

The Navy is phasing out (or has already phased out) the bell bottom trousers.

I’ve never seen this sword you’re referring to. In the Honor Guard we used sabres, and they look rather nice with the rest of the uniform.

Swords? Swords? You guys are making fun of berets while your own troops are walking around with nineteenth-century edged weapons?
Well, to each his own.

Anyway, can somebody give me a run-down of the different kinds of military uniforms? I mean, I’ve heard you mention several kinds of dress uniforms, and I’m sourious how many there are and when each of them is worn.

Before you fashion mavens go any further, didn’t any of you guys read that “Dirty Little Secrets” book wherein it notes the rule of thumb that the side with the snazziest uniforms is more likely to lose the war?
