Things are better, at least according to a cabbie I talked to when I was up there a few months ago, and there’s no better person to ask about such things than a cabbie. 15 years ago it was a heck of a lot worse. That being said, I was appalled to find out that one of the men whose kid got killed because he was the target was out despite having a ton of felonies. That just should not happen. Incorrigible criminals should be removed from society permanently, and places that have done that by definition don’t see murders involving five time felons. ---

Rightly or wrongly (hint, it’s wrongly), people won’t give a shit about Chicago because it is gangs killing gangs. The occasional killing of a child or other innocent bystander is a momentary tragedy that gets attention, but it’s quickly overwhelmed by all the other shootings. In the minds of most people, they get what they deserve and it’s their own problem to clean up. ---

You’re right, now that link goes to a cached version -8 hours later than when I first saw it. You’ll just have to trust us; it really did say Michele in an earlier version. And we seem to have demonstrated the OP’s point that no one cares about Chicago. This thread is mostly posts about who wrote a blog article and google caching. ---

The kid wasn’t shot by a white cop, and black-on-black crime doesn’t fit comfortably into anyone’s “The Man Is Keeping Us Down” narrative.
