# Black Males in Louisiana/Washington DC life expectancy question.

In this review of Dave Eggers’ recent book, _Zeitoun_:

the review author states that “Black male life expectancy in Louisiana is lower than in Kyrgyzstan; life expectancy in Washington DC is lower than in the Gaza Strip.”

Are these two statements accurate?

Life expectancy of a male in Kyrgyzstan at birth is 65.4 [HEALTH PROFILE KYRGYZSTAN](http://worldlifeexpectancy.com/country-health-profile/kyrgyzstan)

The life expectancy of a black male in Louisiana is 69 years. I couldn’t find out from the article if that was the life expectancy at birth.

Black males in DC–about 58 or so.

Of course, if you did a study in the Gaza Strip and further divided the life expectancy by poor neighborhoods and wealthier neighborhoods, you might find a disparity.
