Not as much about the hoes and pimps angle, but I’ve noticed the new trend in rap videos is to make it like a pseudo Feature Film. There’s some little dialogue at the beginning, and then, BAD BOY RECORDS PRESENTS P. DIDDY in A VIDEO I guess it’s a way for rappers to stroke their egos a little bit, seeing their name in big letters on the screen. ---

You know, I laugh–haha-- whenever I see threads like this. The “Isn’t it scary/funny/stupid when black people do this” type threads.But they really make me both a little sad and a little angry. You wanna know how “black men” act in videos? The way a white guy would if he thought it would sell more CDs. Here’s a list– Why do black people talk the way they do? Because that’s the way they talk. Same reason white people talk the way they do. Why do black people dress/comb their hair/walk the way they do? Because that’s the way they do it. Same reason white people do. Why do black people fail/commit crimes/default on loans they way they do? For the same reason every other motherfucker on this goddamn planet do the things they do. What The Everloving Fuck? Are you so stupid you cannot figure out why in the hell there are pimps and ho’s in **some** black videos? Have you put your head in a vice and made your mind so narrow that you can’t see any of the other video made by multitudes of black people that don’t have pimps and ho’s? Ohh Ohhh, I know! I know! Blacks are a bunch of oversexualized “others” that can’t enjoy MTV unless pimps and ho’s are involved! That’s the answer to the OP! ---

It used to save me from endless repetitions of “Born to Be Wild” on the jukebox, when I used to bartend. Wednesday nights, the women’s dart team for the restaurant at which I bartended. Lite beers, ice tea, and Steppenwolf. Um, yeah ladies, you’re all “bad” alright. (snort). After about the third Wednesday I waited until about 5 minutes before the dart team was due for practice and I loaded the Jukebox with every hiphop and 80s pop song I could find. Including several repetitions of 'Baby Got Back". I repeated this exercise with my own money, until about the third time they came in and the juke box was loaded. When they asked what happened, I just shrugged innocently and told them that a group of college kids came in and then left just before they arrived. I’ve been fond of that song (for having saved me from 15 repetitions of “Born to Be Wild” a night) ever since. 😃 😃 ---

MTV, et. al. are the only outlets for music videos to be shown on a wide scale. MTV, et. al. market heavily to teenagers. Teenagers are horny. Ergo, those who make music videos are well-advised to make “sexy” videos because, of course, it sells. Believe it or not this has relatively little to do with melanin content. By the way, that Big Boi video rules (and white people need to stop going so crazy over “Hey Ya,” Jesus). If you’re actually concerned about this “issue,” I suggest you look into conscious rap (although a lot of that is more or less the hip-hop equivalent of new age music: emasculated and soft). ---
