> That is the stupidest idea I have ever heard!
>
> It would be an impossible nightmare to trace, and then prove, and then separate out, by states, everyone’s genealogy.
>
> Of course, everyone who has ancestors that immigrated to the United States, AFTER slavery was abolished, would pay nothing, and get nothing. Likewise, those who had ancestors that were slaves before 1789 would have to go to Great Britain if they want financial damages.
>
> However, it would not be as simple as seeing who came here after the 1860’s, but you would certainly have to do it by state. If Michigan never had slavery, then people who have ancestors from Michigan get nothing, and they pay nothing.
>
> If half of your ancestors were slaves, and half were slave owners, then you pay yourself. For example, the simplist example is that if Tom Jefferson and Sally Hemmings had a child, then that half-white half-black child would simply pay herself, and we would then call it even - the child would net not paying anything, and would not end up with anything either.
>
> I wouldthink, to be fair, that if your ancestor was a black slave owner, then you would have to pay the special reparations tax to a white decendant of a Union soldier who fought to end slavery.
>
> Certainly people who had no ancestors who were either slaves or slave owners, dont pay or get anything, regardless of when they came here.
>
> The farther you get from 1865, or 1789, the more difficult it would be to determine who would pay who much and who would get how much. IF you are 1/32 a decendant from an ancestor who was a slave, then although you get 1/32 of the reparations, you also have to pay 31/32 of the special tax bill which means you might be paying a LOT more than you would be getting .
>
> If you really want reparations, then come up with a workable computer program that will correctly process all possible conditions.
>
> Until you can correctly figure out how to do it, then the “reparations” that you talk of is just a “red herring”.

Wow. You really got your tights in a twist over that one, didn’t you? **Honesty** wasn’t saying that reparations should be made to black people. He was just using a hyperbolic example of something that could possibly cause more blacks to vote for Republicans.

No one believes that the descendants of slaves will get reparations for past evils committed by whites; that ship has sailed. Should there have been reparations for blacks? Damned skippy, just as there were for former Japanese internment camp victims. However, too much time has passed and the African genetic pool in America has become too polluted by at least 150 years of bi- and multi-racial progeny to easily determine who would be eligible.

I think it bears repeating that just because the majority of blacks vote for the Democratic party doesn’t mean the Democratic party is the black party.

Also, why do you insist on calling the Democratic party the Democrat party? That’s not its name.

**Susanann** , you obviously don’t have to answer this question, and if you reply that it’s none of my business I will understand, but I am curious: Are you black or white? Certain of your posts have led me to a conclusion, and it would help to know whether or not my suspicion is correct before responding to you further.

Thanks.

Yes. It’s a perfectly appropriate term for the process of a substance, element or pool becoming impure through the incorporation of foreign matter.

That’s the reasoning underlying affirmative action programs, that it’s not possible to fairly address compensation on an individual basis, but that the social effects of that history persist to the present day, and \*those \*can be dealt with. It sure took us long enough to get started, though.

Therefore, everyone needs to stop calling the Republican Party a white party just because a majority of whites vote for the Republican Party.

There are more white people than black people in the US. Black people are a minority, meaning not the majority. All black people can be members of just one party without actually being in the majority of that party.

Both the Democrats and the Republicans have lots of white voters. The Republicans don’t have much other than white voters. The Democrats have lots of non-white voters.

Just as [a snapshot from 2008](http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/04/us/politics/04compare.html):

> [@](#):
>
> According to polls of delegates conducted by The New York Times and CBS News, 93 percent of the Republican delegates are white (compared with 85 percent in 2004 and 89 percent in 2000), while 5 percent are Hispanic and 2 percent are black. The Democratic delegate pool in Denver, according to the survey, was 65 percent white, 23 percent black and 11 percent Hispanic, roughly the same as at other recent Democratic conventions.
>
> The poll also found that men accounted for 68 percent of Republican delegates (compared with 57 percent in 2004) and about half the Democratic delegates.

You never answer when people ask why you seem to ignore the last 40 years. The Republican party has not been the same since Nixon.

Yeah then all those filibustering Democrats became Republicans.

Being called a Republican is not really considered a personal attack or name-calling.

> [@Susanann](#):
>

We don’t call Republicans white because most whites are Republicnas, we call Republicans a white party because almost all Republicans are white. The OP is asking why the Republican party doesn’t have more diversity (specifically more blacks) and the answer is because Republicans pander to racists. This thread should have been about 4 posts long.

You are right that I should’ve been more explicit in assigning the credit when it comes to the Congress. I was going by memory of the JFK speech and Lyndon Johnson’s push to pass it. There was a significantly increased polarization of the black vote ever since, though.

A rising tide lifts are boats had some validity when Kennedy was president. But lowering corporate taxes just makes money for those at the top now. Their job creation is not in America. That has been true for a long time. Don’t look to corporate America to make jobs in this country. They have proudly proclaimed the elimination of workers for decades. That, while productivity and profits were soaring. Want to help create jobs, lower taxes on local non international companies. Raise them on corporations.
