Granted, corruption in Illinois politics is nothing new, but… It was fairly easy to see that what the Ex-Governor (w00t.) has been doing since this indictment was announced amounted to nothing more than cynically playing to the ignorant. The ignorant who cast aside hard facts and information in favor of personality, sound bites, and bombast. The dupes that fall for “media blitzes” over and over and over again. Mr. Blagojevich, no where during the entire period of this review did you credibly address what you meant by the (paraphrased) statement “I’m not giving this away for nothing.” At no time did you ever credibly address why you would hold back a deal for a second-rate baseball team if the company owning them did not fire employees who had fallen into your disfavor. You smirk and grin on television as if you had not been charged with the breach of trust of twenty million people who have already had it up to here with the malfeasance of elected officials. And your defense? “blah blah blah Kipling yada yada Oprah snort giggle health care the fix is in the sun was in my eyes…” Gaaaah! So let me add in to the thousands of people giving you the collective HAW HAW HAW! as you sneak into obscurity (and, with any luck, a nice comfy jail cell). Unanimous conviction… in this day and time… I hope it hurts bad. Oh? Those warm drops of water falling through your political coffin? It’s hair gel, you miserable toerag. Rub it in. Rub it in GOOD. ---

It takes a particular kind of political ability to unite all 59 members of the Illinois Senate against you, including 37 members of your own party. I don’t think anyone without Blago’s special charms could have done that. ---

I posted this in another thread, but I’m a little amazed at just how strong a surge of schadenfreude this whole thing has produced in me. In a matter of weeks, I’ve gone from never having heard of this jackass to loathing him with my whole being. What a complete and utter…no word is strong enough. His “media blitz” strategy seemed to have been predicated on the idea that the American public are so stupid and gullible that they’d buy into anything they see on TV, and I was just thrilled to see him proven wrong. Urgh. Just writing this is making me pissed off at him. Good riddance. ---

I had thought he was thoroughly corrupt and stupid in just the ordinary ways, until he started with the martyr speeches comparing himself to King and Gandhi. That proves he’s a special breed of man. BTW, I understand the only House member not to vote for his impeachment was his sister-in-law. ---

What killed me was the one, I think it was Meeks who said “We have this thing called impeachment, and it’s bleeping golden, and we’re not letting it get away for nothing, YES” I laughed until I puked. ---

I saw something on the news this morning that said the polls were saying that more people from outside of Illinois were swayed by his media tour than in Illinois. I, for one an ashamed that we elected the cretin twice (Disclaimer: Not me, but the collective “we”). He’s a psychopath on a power trip who misunderstood the sign on his door, thinking it read “All-Powerful Lord and Master” and not simply “Governor”. The problem with his type is that we, the unwashed masses can never reach him, because he sees only his reflection in the mirror and hears only his own voice. Until the day he’s tarred, feathered and shipped to Iowa, naked, on a freezing day, exposed to the sub-arctic winds blowing from Sheboygan, he will insist that he was set it, it’s all a fix and all he ever did was help people. If I knew a good effigy-maker, I’d out with my gas can in the morning. Adios Rod, disappear now. And take that ugly wife with you. ---

I cannot give you a quote, however, I can say that I DID hear it on TV I think last night - I remember remarking on it to my husband because it made me choke on my beer when I heard it. It was one of the highlights of my evening. ETA - I don’t remember if we were watching Channel 7 (ABC News) or Fox News when I heard it, though. ---
