The generally accepted version of the second line is ♫ Revved up like a Deuce … ♫ which fits with the Deuce Coupe theory.

The most common Mondegreen of the line is ♫Wrapped up like a douche … ♫ which is about as weird as the rest of the lyrics. :dubious:

You appear to have a conflation of them.

I suppose we could always [ask Springsteen](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLv_vk6iWn4):

> Deuce was like ‘little deuce coup’ as in two-seater hotrod. Douche of course is a feminine hygienic procedure. So, uh, they’re different. .

The meaning of Cecil’s greeting was discussed in a thread way back in the day.
I M SMRTR TN U = I am smarter than you

U R SMRTR N I ? = You are smarter than I?

D L U R = The hell you are

TRKE = Turkey

Got it? R U N-V-S ?
That **guest** guy sure is smart.

What, nobody’s posted a link to the column yet?

[In “Blinded by the Light,” what exactly is the lyric following the title phrase?](http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/1120/in-blinded-by-the-light-what-exactly-is-the-lyric-following-the-title-phrase)

I hear Manfred Mann will be making a comeback teaming up with Wal-Mart to push a whole line of sequels songs promoting all sorts of feminine hygine products! 😉

I can’t believe nobody has correctly answered this INCLUDING Cecil!! You really should consider getting something like… oh, the Internet, maybe, so you can look these things up. Anyway, it’s “Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night”. “Deuce” is cop slang for a drunk driver, thus the “revved up” part.

Peace

Wow! So the guy that actually _wrote_ the song is wrong about what it means?

You can find any old rubbish on the internet alongside, or piled five feet deep on top of, the truth. As has been pointed out earlier in this thread **Bruce Springsteen** says he meant “deuce” as in “cool car”. What are these internet sources of yours that trump **Bruce Springsteen** ’s statment on what **Bruce Springsteen** ’s song lyrics mean?

Why would a Jersey boy be using California police lingo?

Obviously, Bruce don’t know what he got.
