Blinking lights are an abomination.
Non blinking on a tree, since I have to look at it all the time, and the blinking ones drive me nuts.
Blinking is fine on outdoor displays, though, I just don’t like being stuck in the same room with it.
Twinkling lights, where a few bulbs on the string randomly blink at different intervals, are nice. Regular blinking lights are awful.
I can’t stand when you see a house that used blinking and non-blinking lights to, say, trim the roofline. Half the roofline blinks and the other stays solid.
Solid ON/OFF/ON/OFF blinking seems jarring to me but I find some variation in the brightness looks pretty.
I had some lights that I used at my store that had a few different settings. My two favorite options were “slow fade” and “twinkling”. If I could find those again I’d like them on my tree, but I’m a cheapskate and as long as there’s nothing wrong with the lights I already own I won’t be shopping for new ones.
Another person for both. A set of blinking lights to be turned on just occasionally, and non-blinking for the rest of the time.
Bingo – I string our tree with solid lights, and add one or two strings of slow-fade lights as well. They compliment each other nicely, and the effect doesn’t have the harshness of blinking lights.
I like a mix. But I really, REALLY hate the lights that blink in sync or in patterns. I much prefer individually blinking lights. They’re hard to find, though, so I usually go with non-blinking.
