# Bloggers all out against Obama... \*jaw drops\*

The [FEC just absolved McCain](http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/21/fec-sides-with-mccain-on-primary-funds/) of all sin in this matter, so the Maverick is again clean as a whistle.

I seem to recall Senator Obama’s wording was along the lines of “In order to eliminate the effect of 527s, I will pursue an agreement with the other candidate so that both of us would only accept public money.”

He pursued the agreement with McCain; no agreement could be reached.

Obama has therefore struck out on his own to eliminate the 527s within his sphere of influence, while McCain has continued to reap the benefits of the attack dogs on his side.

This always comes up as an example of Obama’s waffling, flip-flopping, and lack of moral principles. Seems to me his goals have never wavered, but his tactics had, and the Republicans are trying to make it all about the funding agreement and not the reason _why_ he wanted that agreement; they characterize Obama as having compromised his principles on fair campaigning while conveniently ignoring that McCain has yet to demonstrate any.
