If I’m reading the article right, it was the doctors that amputated the hand, not the propellor, which suggests to me that it was too damaged to save. Walking into a propellor is just so gruesome that it counts as top news. Plus we’ve all seen _Raiders of the Lost Ark_. ---

She isn’t the first or the last one to do this. It is a fairly common accident in aviation. ---

I don’t know of anyone who lived to tell about it though. I did hear about a guy who got sucked into a jet engine and survived though - amazingly, he only had minor injuries. His belt buckle caught on something inside the engine and kept him from being chopped to bits. ---

That is terrible. When I read “moving prop” I was expecting to read that she ran into a cardboard tree being moved at a photoshoot. A propellor is much worse. ---

I also was picturing a prop piece on the shooting set, which would have been appropriate (sort of) for making “blonde model” type jokes. An _airplane propeller_ incident that mangles her face and hand? Sheesh. That’s just gruesome. ---

I admit… I did chuckle a bit at the way they worded it. Why do they keep pointing out that she’s a “fashionista”? Obviously they are playing to a particular angle/sentiment. If I were writing the headline it would say “Woman miraculously survives walking into running airplane propeller” or something like that. ---

Walking into a moving airplane propeller is one of the many exciting ways that characters died in the one-act play “Addict” that we performed in high school. Googling seems to find the play-write as a one Jerome McDonough, if you care to look it up. My character died by stabbing herself in the eyes with knitting needles while high on PCP. Great stuff and perfect for the kids. ---
