I guess the slight issue is that a vaccine program is about protecting the community not necessarily the individual. So if everyone is encouraged to select what they want and then lots start delaying until they get the one they want, then everyone suffers. Absolutely nobody should have to take a vaccine they aren’t 100% comfortable with however encouraging personal choice might not be the fastest route to a herd immunity.
Yes, it’s a conundrum for public health officials. But for ethical reasons and for public trust, I would think transparency would be better than secrecy. The UK did make a recommendation that AZ not be used in those under 30, and other countries have made similar recommendations. I’m not sure if the sex link was as clear in the AZ cases. I know there were more female than male. But the more targeted the advice can be, the better.
