Here is the challenge: Let’s see how many members we can get to donate blood by New Year’s Day. That gives you just over a month to work out a time to go and give a little bit of yourself to save a life. What a great idea, Opal! I’ve donated blood many times. I can’t do it right now, though–it hasn’t been 12 months sincce I got my tattoo. However, I promise to try & recruit as many people as I can do do this, and I myself certainly will, as soon as I am allowed. ---

I’d love to be able to, **Ope.** Between 1978 and 1990-whatever, I donated close to two gallons of my own personal blood. Unfortunately, about five or six years ago, the Powers That Be determined that anyone who had an interesting sex life post-1977 can just keep their fucking blood to themselves. Though I am clean, pure, and free of disease, me and my blood are no longer welcome. ---

Alas, my blood is very rare, shared by only 12 of my female relatives, and wouldn’t be any good to anyone anyway except the aforementioned 12 people. ---

I am 0+, disease free, and my sex life has not been so interesting that they reject me, although my travel history used to raise some eyebrows (former Soviet Union). I used to give so regularly that my home town Red Cross would call me when it was time to give again. Buncha vampires. I will take your challenge, Opal, thanks for the reminder. ---

What a great idea. We just had a blood drive at work but I couldn’t donate yet, as I am still on an antibiotic. But I finish that tomorrow, and two days afterwards I can give. I’l sign in then. I have good old run of the mill A+. ---

What are all the reasons why you can’t give blood? I know they have a LOT of stipulations, what are they? and WHY? ---

I’m to young. I’m not sure why they say that. At 17 I’m larger than most other adults. Is it in case something goes wrong I will be a legal adult at 18 instead of a child? I would give blood if I could. Sign me up for an IOU A+ ---

I would be more than happy to, but they won’t let me; I don’t weigh enough. (Yeah, I’m pretty teeny.) They only let me donate for my own surgery a couple of years ago by making me come in TWICE, taking a half each time. The needles didn’t bother me that much but I’d rather not have had them digging around in BOTH of my arms, you know? I’m with you in spirit, though. When I was a kid I had some surgery and they had to give me a pint or two; I’d love to repay the favor, but I’m not allowed! Waah! ---
