Don’t get me wrong. On this front I fully realize I screwed the pooch. I didn’t even consider going online for something like that. I’m all about the instant gratification.
I also have a 720p TV (Samsung 32") and a Blu-Ray player (Sony BDP-BX1), and given the conversation has turned to cables this may actually be appropriate:
One annoying thing I am experiencing with the Blu-Ray player connected to my TV through an HDMI cable is very, very bad lip sync. The sound is often what feels like seconds out from the picture, which makes the movie unwatchable for me. This happens with Blu-Ray and standard DVDs.
My first thought was it was HDMI related, and also connected some standard analog audio cables (the red and white things), setting the Blu-Ray player to output audio on “Stereo Analog” rather than “HDMI”.
I first thought this resolved the issue, but it really didn’t. It turns out that power cycling the Blu-Ray player will often fix the issue perfectly. In other words, it is an intermittent issue (aaargh!).
Has anyone had any experience with this sort of issue? Where do you think the problem lies? I suspect the Blu-Ray player itself, as my cable box is connected through HDMI as well and I have never had an issue. But I am no expert!
I suggest you post your question on the http://www.videohelp.com forum. They are the experts, have lots of experience, and are usually pretty good about figuring stuff like this out.
I had the same problem with my normal DVD player connected through a receiver to the TV, all via HDMI cables, so it is not a Blue-Ray-related or your-machine-specific issue. I worked around mine by setting the delay on my receiver for the sound, but that won’t help you. Sorry.
I’m surprised no one mentioned that hdmi is PURE EVIL. It uses the “content protection” that the pigopolists tried to force on us through legislation. Turns out they could achieve the same thing through sheer market power.
Use of component cables is the best thing you can do to stand up against that.
