Van Morrison & Ray Charles did a version of Crazy Love when Van was conducted into a hall of fame. It’s my favorite version of a song I wouldn’t necessarily have called a soul song in its original incarnation. Van Morrison can just do anything. Here's another example of Van turning a non-soul shouting song into a killer soul-shouting song. It's that's sappy little Irish ditty that Bing Crosby was famous for - Only it turns out, it was a soul song all along and only Van realized it: That's from the Last Waltz. It opens with Richie Manuel, drunk off his ass and sounding dire, but then Van sings the actual song. Super soul shoutiness at its finest. ---
