Well then. The answer seems to be that it is just nearly impossible to insult an individual person without insulting an entire group of people you have no desire to insult. So, we ARE going to become a kinder, gentler people, then. (I know this sounds very snarky but actually I am serious. How can I tell someone they are a steaming sack of shit without resorting to really ugly images like that?)

I don’t know if it’s OK, but you are definitely implying that she at least occasionally puts penises in her mouth. Perhaps intimating that she is some kind of slut. That is not homophobic.
However, when you call a man a cocksucker you are also implying that he at least occasionally puts penises in his mouth. This is straight up homophobia.

What i would ask you is: if you’re worried that not being able to call someone a faggot or a cocksucker or a motherfucker somehow limits your ability to insult them, then why are you apparently squeamish about calling them a steaming sack of shit?

FWIW, I totally understand. While the literal meaning of the word is clear to me in retrospect, it never occurred to me that it was a homophobic slur until far later in life, maybe not even until college. “Faggot” was a very clear accusation of homosexuality but, for some reason, the more literal and easier to figure out through its constituent parts “cocksucker” wasn’t, at least not that I observed (and it seems several posters have similar observations.)

Why would I care if you’re gay? I’m straight. (I know you’ve been trying to insult me by implying that I’m gay, but not being homophobic I don’t regard it as an insult.) On the other hand, if I were gay, I certainly wouldn’t be attracted to someone who was as petrified of gay people as you.

Why do you (or gays) care so much whether I like you or not?? Or whether I’m petrified of you or not??
If I dont bother you, or prevent you from getting a job, or throw you out of your apartment, then what do you care what I think of gay people??

What you don’t seem to understand is that by defending or minimizing the use of anti-gay slurs, as you have here, you _are_ doing damage. By saying it’s ok to use anti-gay slurs, you are giving support to those who do want to discriminate against them.
