HAPPY BIRFDAY TO SPATS !!! **Dots,** I hope the work situation improves for you soon. I would have loved to played hooky today, but there is too much to do here. Besides, I’m on vacation all next week, so I can’t really justify it. The temps are supposed to reach mid eighties again. We already have plans to go out on the boat after work. The kids and hubby will head out when hubby gets home. I’ll have to meet them after I get off work at 4:30. Hubby has most firmly decided on the all cash option for the bonus. While some of the stuff in the catalog was nice (camcorders, Waterford crystal, grandfather clocks, among quite a few others), the cash is most decidely nicer. I am going to look up the IRS rules on bonuses. After doing the math, we discovered they are removing **42 FREAKING PERCENT** in federal taxes from the bonus. The bonus is $5,000 and he’d net $2,900.00. What the hell is that? According the paperwork, them’s the rules. However, if we opt for the gift and the prize, he next a whole $672.00 more in VALUE. So, we’d have the gift and $1900 in cash. :rolleyes: He wants the cash, so that’s what we’ll do. Besides, we want to pay down the new washer/dryer set and we’re planning on taking a trip next month. I am hoping that those of you in the flooding areas are doing well. I swear, you all got our February weather! ---

Happy Birthday, Spats! You’re very old now! Latin dance is _lots_ of fun, **Twinks**. I did a bit of ballroom dancing (I can still swing :snerk:) and we did some Latin. Yay! **taxi** might take bellydancing!Then there will be two of us in the MMP! We did debke. It’s a sort of Lebanese impromtu line dance. I am tragically bad at dancing with other people if they’re not Mr. Lissar. I also want a new hipscarf. I’ve got a black one with just beads, and an ankle-length scarf with coins, but I’d like something shorter, brighter, and noisy. Happy Birthday, Spats & Pugs! 'K, Punjabi weddings! I will try to keep it to two or three posts at the most. If I put it all together, though, it makes it harder to read. Punjabi weddings often are initiated by one of two things: One, and the more common, is a matchmaker or go-between. Often an uncle or a relative will comment, “I see your son is growing up. You know, my daughter is the same age. I have come to ask for your son for my daughter.” Then, in the old days the parents would agree or disagree. Still happens in villages. In richer houses, though, kids have grown uppity (;)) and demand to meet each other. So they’re allowed to meet, a few times, in public. If they agree, the wedding is one. This is the way if the children are of equal social status or if the male is of higher status. The other way is a shagun. Shagun means “auspicious beginning”. The groom’s side sends a platter covered with a red silk cloth. On the cloth are gifts, sweets, and usually the mother’s bangles which she received from her mother-in-law many years ago. This is to entice the bride into agreeing. This is if it is known the girl has many suitors or is of a higher social standing. Once this has occured, we move on to the meeting of the families. In the old days the bride usually wasn’t present at this meeting. Back then, the bride was not to see the husband until the wedding. While this rule has relaxed, the bride usually still doesn’t come to this meeting as it’s held at the groom’s family’s house, and the bride isn’t supposed to go there until the wedding. In the meeting, there is usually singing, and dancing, and presents brought. After this comes the engagement. This is definitely a new thing as you can’t have an engagement if the bride can’t even show up! But now they do exchange rings, then dance and sing and stuff like that. More in the next post. ---

I can’t blame my weird post (what do you mean which one!) on the hamsters. That’s ham **p** ster to **Sean**. My work puter has been wonky today. We had a _blip_ yesterday afternoon during a thunderstorm. That’s when everything all of a sudden goes _blip_, turns off and turns back on. I thought it was ok when I left but apparently not. However, now, puter is all better. YAY! As I was saying, I am now l little more human that I was first thing this morning. All I could manage first thing was to sing H.B.D. to **Spats** cause I was one poed bear. See, I had this escalating work problem. One staff member yelling and screaming at another. She would not calm down. Finally I just had to get in her face and tell her to either knock it off or consider herself unemployed. She stopped. Then, my boss and I met to discuss what went on. Then we talked to the involved parties. The yeller and screamer did receive a written reprimand (that’s kind of a bad thing here cause it means no raises for a period of one year) and she accepted it well. The thing I appreciated most is she went to the co-worker she was jumping on and apologized for her unprofessional behavior. That shows a level of responsibility and maturity I really appreciate. So, I’m all better now. Things are blessedly quiet. So, how’s everybody else’s day going? Oh, hi **Rue**. Good to hear from ya! So, who’s up for next week? ---

I would like to try for the TMI post of the week, if I may; but I’ll put it in a spoiler box just in case someone doesn’t want to hear my woes. I have been suffering from a nasty case of chafing for going on 2 and a half years. It’s in the two most inconvenient locations - at the top of my thigh where is joins the torso, both legs; and under my breasts, where the bra band sits. I go thru baby powder like noone’s business. I even use the medicated stuff (with zinc) but it doesn’t seem to get any better. Plus I seem to perspire more in those areas than anywhere else on my body (could be the folds of fat :eek: ) I am planning on buying that stuff that provides “a silky barrier” and trying it this weekend. Suffice to say, the damn rash is DRIVING ME INSANE!!! BEFORE YOU CLICK on the spoiler box, I should warn you - it’s borderline "women"s stuff, so read at your own risk. The only reason I’m posting it at all is because I need to vent about it. I just feel like screaming. So do I win? ---

Geez, leave work early, take in a concert and a few drinks, sleep late and see all I missed? Happy Birthdays!!! (Even if it’s not) Last night was one of the weekly concerts on [“the hill”](http://www.bolingbrook.com/index.php?page_id=3) . That’s not where we live, but a lot of our friends are from there, so we’re regulars at whatever they put on there. The link is a very small picture of the stage in front of a grassy hill. Last night was a Motown band, they were actually surprisingly good. I’m not playing Guess **rigs’s** Birthday, because if I win, I’m gonna have some 'splainin to do… 😃 Today is a slacker day for me, and a shortened one at that. I leave at 3, go get the Kid from work, then drive into the city, where we hook up with the Wife, and go meet my cousin Gregoria and her family. They’re in town from CA for a water polo tournament her daughter’s playing in this week. I haven’t seen her in 12 years, when she was pregnant with her youngest. **FCM** , I’ll be checking the mailbox in the near future, 'k? I’m so excited!!!
