I logged in and it said last login was 12:34 a.m. Read one thread. Went back to CP and it said last login was 8:03 a.m. I had one new subscribed thread left to read. Ironically, it was this one! ---

Zapped. At 6:23 pm the board claims my last log in was at 6:23 pm today. Naturally, there’s not a single unread thread for me to view. ---

I’ve noticed the Board and regular Straight Dope page going down many days at about 2pm our time, which is 2am in Chicago. Always at that time and always for about 20 minutes, today included. ---

I would just like to say that I, for one, welcome **Siam Sam** ’s posts. Kind of like checking in, as comforting as the regularity of the sun’s rising in the east. (Does it do that in the Far East as well?) I was also fascinated to learn that there are boards on pigeons devoted to those of particular ages. ---

A friend of mine owns, breeds, and flys [Birmingham Rollers](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birmingham_Roller), pigeons that do somersaults in the air. Sort of zapped. A handful of unread threads are marked as Read among all the other Unread ones. Weird. ---

Before logging in, I did take a quick look in that forum, opening only one thread. Then I logged in. That must have been enough for it to mark every subscribed in that forum as Read. ---

If you’re lazy, you could try only browsing in incognito/private mode. ---

And how would that help? “Last Visited” is clearly not stored as a cookie since I can switch back and forth between Firefox on Linux, Firefox on Windows, and IE on Windows (I only go into IE when I have to!) and in the past have been able to switch between physical computers and it remembers when I last visited SDMB (except when it hiccups). ---
