Is it just me, or are these boards incredibly slow? I’m talking glacial. I seee the announcement above that they are working on some unspecified problems - is speed one of them? I hope so. Or am I the only one with this issue? ---

This board is slow. It has been slow for some time now. It will likely be slow for sometime to come. Just relax and open another window and read news or something, like the rest of us do. 🙂 ---

If you go to About This Message Board, or do a search in the archives, you will no doubt find many threads addressing this issue. Thirdly, you’ve got to learn to post in the correct forum. The Pit is for complaints. By the tone of your letter, it seemed you were asking a question more than making a complaint. Thus, this thread should be in ATMB. To illustrate: “Why is the board so slow?” - **ATMB**. “The board is _%#$^_ slow!” - **BBQ Pit**. Zev Steinhardt ---

It’s also worth noting that yes, the board is slow, but we are all doing our best not to complain, because we love it here and we understand that the SDMB only exisits at all because the folks at the _Reader_ are really nice people. Furthermore, we know that the good administrators are doing their best, on thier own time, to help the problem. It’s actually been better lately. It’s like a really good friend’s house that reeks of cat piss. If the good friend brings up the problem, it’s cool to offer suggestions/advice/sympathy. But it’s rude to complain about it if you haven’t been invited to. Find an online comic strip with a three or four years of archives. You can bounce loading strips nad pages–witha little practice a person can get quite good at this. ---

Yeah, things get pretty slow. It’s a function of how many people are reading the boards and such at any given time. The server can only handle requests at a certain speed, and gets bogged down incredibly during the midday hours (US time) on weekdays. Nights and weekends are better. ---

The board speed is is directly proportional to the amount that it is loved. Many people love this board, and therefore it is is many slow. [sub]I’m going to bed soon. Really.[/sub] ---

The upgrade of Staff Reports has to be put off until we can determine the exact height of the water table. A message board across the way tried to upgrade and flooded the whole foundation. Pools of code everywhere, dontchaknow. We’ve also been getting some reports of fact leakage in GQ and there’s an infestation of _non causa pro causa_ in GD that might require a specialist. Next week we’re gonna have Norm look at the italics. A few passes on the table saw and they should be good as new. [cue quaint clarinet solo] ---

The boards might be speeding up soon, thanks to the Taliban. Seems that they have mandated that the internet is counter to Islam and therefore it is not illegal for the countryment to log on. Fewer users! The Taliban will pass that speed on to you! ---
