Looking for a good board game that can be played with only 2 people . Don’t have any specific type that I prefer I am willing to check out whatever people suggest.

For 2 people, I find cooperative games generally work better.

I suggest: Codenames Duet (not regular Codenames, which needs more than 2 people). I actually like Duet better than the regular version. Its not “really” A board game, in that there is no board, but it is played on a table.

Chess. Also very easy to sharpen your skills by playing online. Either against a computer or real people.

I often disagree with the DT folks, but the games are worth investigating at least

Chess is pure skill, so if the players are not well-matched it may not be fun.
It can be played by any age.

Pandemic is a co-operative game (for 2-4 players.) I’ve played it happily with bright 8 year olds and also university graduates.

Backgammon, chess, go, Othello, Stratego, checkers.

A few that are better played with three or more, but still good for two: Scrabble, Perquackey, Boggle (the last two are not technically board games).

I have played Monopoly and Risk with only two players. They’re not exactly bad that way, but I don’t think they work particularly well with fewer than three.

Not a board game, but gin rummy is my second-favorite two-player game, after backgammon.

Settlers of Cataan works quite well for two people. I used to play it frequently with a friend of mine.

Dominion. It probably works _best_ as a two-player game, even though it’s regularly played with 3 or 4 (or possibly more, but then it really starts to suffer). Unfortunately, it’s rather expensive to get all the expansions, which is where the best parts of the game for 2-player are.
