“The Price Is Right” was always like finding Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory in a barren wasteland of afternoon television depression. Local News- Somebody got shot downtown and the mayor is wasting your money- ugh! Oprah Winfrey- Battered woman who keep going back for more- ugh! Jerry Springer- America’s trash in a three ring circus- ugh! Soap Operas- ugh! ugh! “The Price is Right”- Yayyyy!!! All is right with the world. I’m happy again. ---

I saw a pic of Barker without the 10 pounds of makeup and I was blown away. The man isn’t in the best shape for working, whether the camera shows it or not. ---

Years ago when we lived in Lalaland, **whiterabbit** and I used to take turns taking an out-of-town friend to tapings of TPIR because he _desperately_ wanted to “Come on down!” To our relief, he finally got picked, so our monthly trips to the tapings ended. Most people don’t realize that by the time the audience gets into the studio, they’ve been there for upwards of 5-6 hours already – lining up, waiting, waiting some more, saying your 10-second piece to the producers to entire them to pick you, and on and on. By the time you get into the studio, it’s amazing _anyone_ has any energy left to be excited. And yet time after time, Bob Barker’s mere presence pumps the audience up to insanely hyper levels. He’s an institution. I’m going to hate to see him go as much as I hated to see Johnny Carson retire. For some people, there can be no substitutes. ---

Wow. I really should get tickets and go to a taping before he leaves. He has been the Price is Right for my entire life and its hard to imagine it without him. Though I agree with Bob, if he does movies he really needs to not to nude scenes. ---

In fact, the show’s running on my TV right now, and there were some people there who’d arrived at the studio to get in line at 1:00 a.m.! That’s probably overdoing it, but nevertheless, we would usually arrive between 5:30 and 6:00 and there were already dozens of people in line. Holding tickets to the show does _not_ guarantee you a seat; it only guarantees you the chance to get in line to get in many, many hours later. ---

At the taping I went to, I also got there with friends at the crack of dawn and kept my energy up for the 10 second interview…however, that day the producer was a “sub” as the regular producer was out sick. _Every_ person who was selected for that particular show was blonde, female, busty and perky…I didn’t have a prayer to be selected even if I had balanced a ball on my nose, juggled chainsaws and did a stand up routine. Our group left after the taping and I believe we all went home and took a five hour nap. ---

I’ve always heard that he is genuinely nice and truly loves what he does. I’m sure somebody will chime in and say that they delivered a pizza to him and got spat on or something, but I still have always liked him on the TPIR, cheesy as it is. I’d like to see him do a movie where he’s a degenerate asshole and cusses like a sailor, though, that’d be funny as shit. ---

An old friend of my family’s (grandparents’ neighbor) once won a sports car and a telescope on the show. ---

Then you’d have to put other amounts not divisible by 5 on the wheel. The studio where the show tapes is the Bob Barker Studio at CBS Television City. I think that’s a fitting tribute to the _host_ of _The Price is Right_, Bob…_BAR_ker! (As the late Rod Roddy used to say) ---
