> Boba has always been my favorite character because of all the EU stuff I read about him. The “Tales of the Bounty Hunters” followed him from his first attempts at capturing Han, all the way through his eventual escape from the Sarlacc.

I figured somebody probably took advantage of the slow digestive system of the Sarlacc to continue this completely insignificant character’s life.

Yeah, put me in the I … don’t … get … it category.

At least Oola makes the crossword puzzles now and then.

You could totally make a Boba Fett movie. In fact they already kinda exist in spirit – Clint Eastwood’s Man With No Name trilogy. Hence why Fett wears a poncho. Completely mercenary with an animal-like drive for self preservation at any cost, regardless of where on the specrum of morality his actions land him, that’s him to a tee I reckon.

Cast him as a lesser of two or more evils.

He’s basically Han sans scruples, in other words.

1. He sasses Vader and Vader lets that shit SLIDE. Who else in the Star Wars Galaxy has done that and gotten away with it?

2. He bounty hunts for Jabba Hutt to finance his Vette. Who among us can’t relate?

In the tradition of the “Saturday Matinee Serial” that was part of the inspiration behind Star Wars, I think Fett was supposed to be a “Villain of the Week” kind of guy, maybe showing up for a few “episodes,” as a minion of the Big Bad, have his bad-assery played up, so that the Heroes could then defeat him and the audience would cheer.
Then the fan-base adopted him and ran away with him.
And then George Lucas killed him off in RotJ. Allegedly, he got better.

So far they have made exactly one side story movie in the current _Star Wars_ canon, and that was only a couple of months ago. Ewok movies notwithstanding. They are making the Han Solo movie for next year right now, and beyond that their plans are unknown.

Rumour has included an Obi-Wan movie, a Yoda movie, and yes, a Boba Fett movie. Personally I expect if Fett appears at all, he would be a supporting character, an enemy to the lead, or just a cameo, but you never know; if a good story comes along, they’d give it a try I’m sure.

I’d love to see a Droids movie with C-3PO and R2-D2, but I very much doubt that would happen. I could also see a young Leia movie could potentially be formulated. They key to Star Wars is adventure, though, so the best candidates are the proactive heroic characters, which at this point is a finite number. But with each subsequent episode, saga or one-off, new characters are made available to potentially be spun off into their own movie, so there’s plenty of potential.

And Obi-Wan, although that didn’t work out super great for him.

But the thing that nobody has mentioned - and which was huge to five-year-old me - is that he _took out Han Solo_. Never mind that Han Solo was, to a five year old, very clearly the coolest person in the galaxy, and therefore unbeatable, but this movie was also my first exposure to the idea that sometimes, bad guys win. Boba Fett was so bad-ass, he could _defeat protagonist plot armor!_ On top of that, there was a whole three year wait to find out what incredible bad-ass stuff he’d do in the _next_ movie!

Okay, turned out, not much, but there’s no way I could know that at the ages of five, six, or seven. And at that point, the adventures of [this guy](https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/03/37/7c/03377c18d3311142dce36e0a7fd20747.jpg) had pretty much supplanted anything [this guy](http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/gallery/data/553/medium/Boba-Fett-Costume-Empire-Strikes-Back-Interrogation-1.jpg) would actually do.

Yeah, pretty much. He’s a bounty hunter, he works for cash. Quite easy to make him the protagonist by having him as the neutral-grey character against some black hat mob boss or something.

As far as the Star Wars ‘side story’ movies go, I just want an Obi-Wan western-type movie and a Boba Fett gangster/shoot-em-up movie. Beyond that, I’d like to move away from the original trilogy characters. Maaaaaybe a Palpatine ‘breaking bad’ movie, but it would take one heck of a script.

Eh, you get the feeling that Tarkin & Vader had been working together for a long time, and had clearly established areas of responsibility and control. At that time Tarkin was in charge of military hierarchy stuff, so he gets to decide which officers get murdered for incompetence or insubordination.

And remember the scene where Vader tells Tarkin that Obi-Wan is on the Death Star - it’s almost touching, in a way:

“The Jedi are extinct, their fire has gone out of the universe. You, my friend, are all that’s left of their religion.”

There’s SW Bounty Hunter PS2 game that has a pretty interesting backstory.

It covers why he had a little clone kid, and it shows how he partner’d up with the shape shifter.

Except, he didn’t, really. _Darth Vader_ took out Han Solo. Vader’s the one who intimidated Lando into betraying Han. Vader’s the one who yanked Han’s blaster out of his hand with the Force. Vader’s the one who put Han into the carbonite, while Boba Fett stood by ineffectually and pleaded with Vader to please sir oh please don’t kill him cause I need him alive please oh pretty please.

At most, Boba Fett figured out how the Falcon had “vanished” during the pursuit, and followed it to Bespin. But once he determined where the Falcon was going, his big “bad-ass” move to capture his bounty was to call in Vader to do all the heavy lifting, while he stood back and watched.

If you couldn’t guess already, I’m one of those who find Boba Fett’s popularity more than a little baffling. I’m the right age to have gotten caught up in the hype–I was ten years old when _Star Wars_ came out–but somehow I didn’t.

That makes me think of how Captain MacShinyArmor is supposed to be the big bad Boba Fett equivalent in The Force Awakens, but her one big moment in the movie was to crumble in the face of the first threat and betray her people, allowing their base to be destroyed to save her own life. She was a traitor and a coward.

I just watched RotJ last week (following the previous two movies over the last month or so) with my partner who had only ever seen the movies maybe once, long ago in her childhood.

When Boba Fett falls into the Sarlacc pit in a brief moment you might miss if you blink, she turns to me and says, “wait, was that Boba Fett? Did he just die? I thought he was supposed to be important or something?”

My speculation about why he’s so revered, much of which aligns with stuff said above:

-Cool looking dude with a jetpack.
-He’s one of a relatively small cast of baddies who actually has a name, and who interacts with our heroes
-He has a clear quest/objective that involves our heroes
-I bet that there’s some extended universe stuff that expands on the Boba Fett character and makes him more important to the ‘core’ fans who read the books/play the games.

It’s always been clear to me that on the Empire’s table of organization Tarkin is a direct line from the Emperor. He’s directly responsible to Palpatine and has a specific zone of control.

Vader, on the other hand, is one of those dotted lines from the Emperor. He’s a ‘Special Assistant’ and therefore not in direct chain of command. He’s a fixer for Palpatine.

I can almost imagine Palpatine’s instructions to Vader:

I’ve always been a “simple” fan. I never read the EU stuff. Barely even read the original tie in novels.

And I though BF was cool. It must be something subconscious, something visceral. Because he sure as hell doesn’t do much in the films, and dies like a punk (no good people ever scream like Wilhelm!). And I never even noticed the Wookie pelts.
