If you are an _Iron Chef_ fan, you probably know that Iron Chef is going to NYC to face Bobby Flay. Chairman Kaga has challenged Flay to die at the culinary hands of Masuharu Morimoto, Iron Chef Japan. I am guessing at an almost 10,000:1 odds that Iron Chef will win. Food Network picked a chef in America that NOBODY likes. If the judges are Japanese, they will not like the look!-I-can-grill! style of Flay. If the judges are American, they will undoubtedly hate Flay. I am watching the commercials right now. Anyone want to speculate what will happen? Secret ingredients? How soon Flay will be forecd to commit ritual Seppuku? ---

I’m _so_ glad you posted this, RedDragon, because I’m a diehard Iron Chef addict, too. My guess it that Morimoto will swab the floor w/ Bobby Flay. Flay is more marketing and hype than substance. In terms of the regular chefs, I wish Ming Tsai had been tapped, or Mario Battatle. They’re both far superior in craft and knowledge. Wouldn’t Tsai vs Morimoto have been interesting? So what if he’s Chinese; Flay is…what? pseudo-fusion-NY-Southwestern? No way Flay will pull it off; and that’s assuming some American judges are on the panel. (Gad, I hope Kishi is one of the judges!) Flay lost soundly to Mario at Aspen, and Morimoto is _waaayyy_ out of Flay’s league. No idea of The Ingredient, but if there are even a few Japanese judges, Flay is dead. Remember the reception Mexican food got? (Though the Japanese/Mexican chef’s menu was badly chosen.) Bet The Ingredient will be something “American”; probably not beef, because they’ve already done Kobe beef. Ditto variations of pork. Have they done a corn battle? I’m putting all my money on Morimoto. Flay doesn’t have a chance. From the looks of the commercial, it has already been taped. That’s too bad, because I really would have loved to see it live. Rose ---

Hmmm. Corn will definitely throw an advantage to Flay. How much “Indian” corn do they eat in the far east? I’m looking forward to Flay getting his ass kicked. I’ve had several meals at his joints in NYC, and not a memorable one yet. As a stone fan of Peasant Food, I really dislike the way Flay tarts up a dignified, satisfying cuisine. Bring on the beans and tortillas and barbecued cabrito, I say, and you can stuff your Tartine de Queso Blanco with Chilpotle Remoulade up your butt. ---

HEY! I like bobby flay! The Japs are at a great disadvantage and out of their medium. I really hope they dubb bobby flays voice also or the show just wont seem right. 🙂 ---

I find “Iron Chef” a bit too bizarre for even my tastes, but I’ll be his biggest fan if he takes down Flay. Back when Flay cohosted a show with Jack McDavid, I got very tired of Flay’s Noo Yawk attytude on all things grilled. If you don’t use charcoal, you’re not barbequeing–end of discussion! ---

HEY! Don’t attack Flay for being a Noo Yawkuh! Attack him for being a crappy cook! Crappy cooks show no allegiance to home towns, states or regions. They infest our land from Seattle to Key West, from Bar Harbor to Luguna, and, one by one, we must PUNISH them for messin’ with good food. If Flay loses, can we get the Iron Chef to cleaver him and stuff him into an enchilada? With a fresh Agave/Mango Salsa on the side? ---

Bobby Flay is toast. I agree that he is way more flash than substance, even though the commercial said that he was the one that elevated Southwestern cuisine to the gourmet level, or something like that. Plus, he is really annoying. On his show he always has that barbecue groupie who stands there ooh-ing and ah-ing over his creations. Did anybody check out the setup? There appeared to be a disco ball on the ceiling of the American Kitchen Stadium! ---

But they aren’t flaying Bobby as much over there. Yet. What baffles me is why they chose him, though. I mean, doesn’t the Food Channel have someone better, who isn’t so obviously an underdog? All pretty much seem to be under the opinion that this is a pathetic set up, with Flay being humiliated at the end. Would Emeril be better? Or, dare I say it, Martha Stewart? Okay, don’t take me too seriously on that one. I’m giggling as I type. ---

Well, I think Food Network picked someone that everybody hates. They did have an American on once, and they didn’t dub his voice. Ron something-or-other. I know that he did beat Iron Chef. However, he was leagues better than Flay. ---

But, never-the-less I will watch it. I have absolutely fallen in love with watching the Iron Chef, especially Morimoto, and Bobby Flay is no slacker, so it will most certainly be a battle to the death!!! I would like to see that southern guy who used to co-host “Grill’n and Chill’n” with Flay go up against on of the Iron Chef’s…now THAT would be a treat!!! ---

Chef Flay really knows how to pour it on!” (Mindless young Japanese actress judge): “Ooooooo, that looks so appetizing!” I’m a huge IC fan. I used to watch it on a Japanese channel when there were no subtitles – and now it’s cancelled in Japan! I hope they bring the show over here permanently. I’ve got to get a friend to tape the New York challenge for me, as I will be out of the country in late June. I agree that the annoying Chef Flay will be roasted in the early innings. Couldn’t we have David Rosengarden instead? Banzai! ---
