Here’s another one: posh is an acronym for port out starboard home. The explanation given that owing to sunlight, these were the preferred sides of the boat. Of course, it is total bull.

Can’t read the page referencing horse statues, but IIRC the statue of Edward VII in the middle of Queens Park in Toronto has the front left hoof raised and I don’t recall anything about Eddy’s war wounds.

It is quite possible that after that myth was promulgated, some artists felt they had to follow it.
