There needs to be a Fleetwood Mac film. That group has a more tumultuous history than Judy Garland (well, maybe…) I’ve been unimpressed with documentaries about the band. They’re dry and don’t personalize the members enough.
Yay! An REM fan! Too bad the title “Man on the Moon” has been taken. Maybe “Try Not to Breathe” could be a title?
…a Lou Reed biopic would be something. Lots of material there.
Can I toss in Billy Idol? I was actually a bit shocked at how interesting his autobiography was (thank you, Mr. Ghostwriter!). It was very readable, unlike recent books by some other music luminaries.
There is a film about Darby Crash/The Germs: What We Do Is Secret, 2007.

Also noteworthy from 2007 is a film about Joy Division, Control, directed by Anton Corbijn.
There was a (television) biopic of Cilla Black in which some of Brian Epstein’s personal travails were shown in a subplot. It’d be an interesting life story but not really a happy one.
Gotta have a good story arc, otherwise you don’t have a movie.
The “Urban Myths” series did an episode about Bowie meeting Marc Bolan back in 1964, with Luke Treadaway as Bowie (or rather David Jones as he was then), Jack Whitehall as Bolan and Adrian Edmondson as their obnoxious manager.
There is going to be a Bowie biopic in the near future. Whether it’s going to focus on his entire life or just the Ziggy Stardust period, I don’t know. (I also think maybe they ought to change the name to Starman, so as not to mix it up with the Stardust that was based on the Neil Gaiman novel.)
Anyway, I’ve come across this rather neat analysis of the music-biopic formula (one of the pitfalls is trying to fit a musician/band’s entire story into a single movie). Whether you agree with it or not, it’s an interesting watch.
There was some talk about a Rolling Stones bio pic regarding their 71’ adventure of exiling themselves to France to record (naturally) “Exile on Main Street”. At one time, Harry Styles was talked about playing a young Jagger. This was maybe 2 years ago. I think the project has been scrapped for whatever reason.
The Stones had plenty of larger than life drama from 68-77’. Lots to choose from.
Onscreen would she be played by Karla DeVito and her white tanktop?
