Not to oversimplify, but one is mainly known for kidnapping girls for brides. The other is known for ethnic/religious cleansing whole cities **and** kidnapping girls for brides. And I suppose one is a bigger threat to oil if you wanna be realpolitik. ---

Hey, remember that time a bunch of girls in Africa were kidnapped and everyone cared for a week? Then I think we got distracted with coming up with silly ways to dump ice water on our heads. Anyway, I don’t “hate” either of them. I think both are a bunch of bad people and understand why players in the global power community would want to take action against them (and agree that it’s a good idea) but I don’t spend much of my energy being mad at them or anything. If I had to pick a group it would be best to stop first, it would be ISIS. ---

I have friends in Northern Cameroon, so I’m pretty grumpy about BH. That said, they are a bunch of bored would-be thugs lead by a loon. ---

I’m going to say Boku Haram because every time I see or hear the name I get that Conquistador song stuck in my head, and I don’t know all the words so I just hang in the middle and get caught in a loop. ---

I always wonder at the use of the word ‘hate’ in this sort of context, do people genuinely get feelings of anger and hatred _(as the word is commonly understood)_ or is it just a term for ‘people we really really dislike’ I don’t “hate” either of them but they don’t really seem like nice people. On a sidenote the rise of ISIS has given a rather unfortunate new connotation to the classic H.L. Mencken quote: “Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.” Oh dear. ---
