[Spiegel.de](http://Spiegel.de) linked to an interview from 2019 in which she explained how she got her raspy voice. When she was young, she caught a laryngitis and was advised by her doctors to stop speaking and singing for a few weeks or months. But given her personality, she couldn’t follow that advice and “ruined” her voice, which in the end became her trademark. She insisted she never smoked in her life. ---
