Narnia is good. I am not looking for fairy tales - have them already.
Who is Brambly woods?

If you’re getting _Charlie and the Chocolate Factory_, also get _Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator_ by the same author. It has never been made into a movie, but it’s equally interesting.

**James and the Giant Peach** - Roald Dahl

**The BFG** - Roald Dahl

The **Harry Potter** series might be ideal for you.

The \*Little House on the Prairie \*series (Laura Ingalls Wilder) were a long-running TV series.

_Harriet the Spy_ was made into a movie.

Little girls and people who used to be little girls seem to love **Anne of Green Gables**. There are a couple of old films, but the definitive adaptation seems to be a 1985 CBC Television version.

As a boy I enjoyed reading and rereading **Tom Sawyer**. **Huckleberry Finn** is a more literary work that skews a little older, and it’s nice (but not strictly necessary) to have read TS as background. (It’s not entirely unlike the relationship between **The Hobbit** and **The Lord of the Rings** , come to think of it.) There have been many films of Tom and Huck’s adventures.

Hey, how about **The Hobbit**? Made into a flawed animated TV version back in the '80s, soon to be a live-action extravaganza produced by Peter Jackson.

Actually, \*my \* favorite book was **The Adventures of Hajji Baba of Ispahan** , which was adapted into a rather ill-regarded film. I’m not sure either the book or movie are strictly suitable for children.

Since you’re Australian, why not get _The Magic Pudding_ by Norman Lindsay, probably the best Australian children’s fantasy.

If you’re leaning more science fiction-y, there’s a ton of stuff out there, such as the Star Wars and Star Trek series.

Sorry, should have been Brambly [_Hedge_](http://www.bramblyhedge.co.uk/frame.htm)

For the 2-4 type age group I’d say. Very G rated 🙂

If you consider 1977 to have been the 80s, sure.
(It hasn’t aged real well).

I didn’t mean to imply that it had.

It is difficult to read together. We watch films together.
