Book(s) You Read Again and Again?

The Green Mile by Stephen King. Downright Best book I’ve ever read. I’m also a fan of James Herriot.

Maybe you need to read it again.

Lonesome Dove

Only book I’ve read more than twice. The tv mini-series was the second best thing I ever saw on television (I Claudius was number one.)

I have read only worthless books i guess. :frowning:

yup. only worthless books.

ack! ignore the previous two posts.
my sig didnt work!!
goes back to reading

I bow to kiss the ground at the feet of someone who has met the author of the most stunning work I have ever read.

Not to hijack or anything, but what’s she like? Is she really cool? What else has she written? If I type her name into our area’s regional library database the computer says, “Huh?” so I have to special order through the closest bookstore which is 25 miles away.

And I need to add a book to my list. “Kings Row.” Can’t remember the name of the author just now, but he’s from my hometown, and the book is set here no matter what he says to the contrary. And if you’ve ever read it, let me tell ya; nothing’s changed.

Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
The Mote in God’s Eye by Niven and Pournelle
Ender series by Card
Deryni series by Kurtz
Hyperion series by Simmons

I’ve only read the Honor Harrington series by David Weber once, but I certainly expect I will go back again to that universe.

Fitzhugh’s “Harriet the Spy” is wonderful, I’ve read it so many times, my first copy is too worn now, I got a new used one. Love it.

Price’s “Sleeping with the Enemy” is a book I’ve also read too many times to count. The movie sucked big rocks, so put that out of your head and get the book, it will pull you in.

“Gone with the Wind” I used to read every summer. Scarlett was such a big dope and a lot of the time I am just like her. I like to read it to remind me. I just like it, period.

Delton’s “Two Blocks Down” is an incredible book. Long out of print. I considered actually stealing the copy from the local library until I finally managed to find a copy of my own.

Elizabeth Enright’s books about the Melendys are some of the most beautifully written books in the world. These are older children’s books but are just magnificent. Also out of print.

Also, I’ve read Pamela Des Barres books “I’m with the band” and “Take another little piece of my heart” quite a few times. They are refreshingly raw and honest and quite humorous.

Calvin and Hobbes are just the best. All of my C&H books look terrible, they have been read so many times.

Mr P did a poetry reading with her once and he says ‘way cool person, really amazing, she’s great’. He once tried to take me to visit her in Okarito but I was feeling too shy.

has info on her. She’s notorious in NZ literature for not delivering on her latest book - the gestation time has been extreme.

Two (four?) books I’ve read several times are Watership Down and The Lord of the Rings.

A book I’ve read dozens of times is Now, Where Were We? by Roy Blount, Jr. It’s a collection of essays, and I recommend it to whomever I’m talking, wherever we are, whenever the topic comes up. Reading his books is like having a conversation with the funniest man you’ve ever met, who just happens to be astoundingly literate and to have done a lot of cool stuff over the course of his life. His work gets lumped in with humor columnists like Dave Barry, but I’ve always thought he covers so much more ground than just “humor” would suggest.

Thanks, Prima.

All Things Bright and Beautiful
All Creatures Great and Small
All Things Wise and Wonderful
The Lord God Made Them All

All by James Herriot (aka Alf Wight).

One of these days I’ll add his last book, Every Living Thing, to that list.
