My WAG is that it’s from the MG sports car, whose name came from “Morris Garages.”

According to the [Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Booker_T._&_the_M.G.'s) entry, Chips Moman claims the name came from his M.G. car and that the “Memphis Group” explanation was manufactured after he left the band.
