Of the reading materials you suggested, Norse Mythology stands out as being of particular interest. There are some pretty strong parallels between the Creation myths of the Norse and the Creation story in Genesis.
Wasn’t really thinking of parallels, tracer. More along the lines (ha) of damn good writing – and reading good writing is the one thing that’s always been sure to make me think.
I was raised in a fundamentalist christian family, and reading was my only sure escape. It showed me the light, so to speak (although when I’m feeling particularly cynical I’ve been known to say that my first mistake was learning to read).
