Books/movies in which barbecue and picnics played a part

Many thanks for all of these, btw.

Movies count? How about Chevy Chase in Vacation trying to impress Christie Brinkley with a sexy sandwich- until he heard that the dog pissed on it?

There’s a picnic scene in Jane Austen’s Emma in which many pivotal human emotions are happening just under the surface, the nature of which are only revealed later.

Mr. Pickwick, Sam Weller and many others have a hilarious picnic in The Pickwick Papers, during a shooting walk.

Ya beat me to it!

This scene is important enough to the plot that I’d assume it’s in any film/television version of Emma. It’s definitely in the 1996 film starring Gwyneth Paltrow as the title character.

Heidi, Peter, and Clara eating goat cheese and bread up in the Swiss Alps. Roasted eggs and potatoes in The Secret Garden. Many dreary campfire or conjured meals in Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows. The big chicken perlow in Strawberry Girl.
