I just finished reading [A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier](http://www.amazon.com/Long-Way-Gone-Memoirs-Soldier/dp/0374105235/sr=8-1/qid=1172341428/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-1841810-7728927?ie=UTF8&s=books) by [Ishmael Beah](http://www.unicef.org/voy/takeaction/takeaction_3264.html), about which… wow. Powerful, shocking, makes you thank God you live in a country where you have no concept of a destroyed village.

Can somebody recommend other readings on modern Africa? This book along with HOTEL RWANDA (which of course is a completely different region/situation) made me realize how ignorant I am on how these conflicts began, the current status, etc., and Wikipedia I just don’t really trust.
