Stop TALKING about _ **YOURSELF** _!!! Nobody gives a shit that you used to play football. Nobody gives a shit that you played in a Super Bowl. Nobody gives a shit that you once got sacked by Kevin Carter for a fucking safety. For three and a half fucking hours it was “_I_ used to do this…” “When _I_ played…” Me, me, me, I, I, I. When Blaine Bishop went down, he started blabbering about the “fraternity of pro football players,” which he referred to with the pronoun “we.” FUCK YOU!!! You’re not a football player anymore! For damn near ruining the best Super Bowl we’ve seen in the past half-decade or so, I think he ought to be demoted next season to cleaning out the lavatory in the Madden Cruiser with a plastic bag and shovel. * * * The IQ of a group is equal to the IQ of the dumbest member divided by the number of people in the group. ---

He only mentioned that he was ahead at half time. Maybe he got hit in the head and forgot the rest of the game? He thinks the Bengals won that super bowl and he got MVP. I don’t know. Hey! I remember that Superbowl! I won 10 kamikazes from a crazed Bengals fan (and bartender) who was sure they were gonna win! That was 1989, right? ---

Football announcers become more clueless and incompetent every day. Did anyone else catch the alert replays after a Ram got flagged for a 15-yard facemask penalty on the Titans’ final drive. Some alert techie out in the van caught two replay angles and fed them to the live feed; the second angle clearly showed that the Ram actualy had grabbed the tip of the football (which McNair was carrying high). Boomer and Mr Greenjeans were too busy talking about whether Mcnair should ground it or burn a timeout to make an observation on a call that could well have changed the outcome of the Superbowl. While I agree that Boomer needs to shut the hell up . . . I reckon he was hired **because** he played the game. Madden still talks about things from a coach’s perspective, Dierdorf used to blather about his games (although as they drifted into memetic obscurity he slacked off a bit). Not that having played makes one a good commentator (which IMO, Esiason and Madden are certainly not), but it does lend a strong element to the color commentary. To switch sports for an example, I think Pat and Johnny McEnroe and Billie Jean King make great commentators, almost entirely because they do know the game so well. -andros- ---

Esiason would seem to be appropriate for one of the bottom-rung announcer pairings at a network – you know, the guys who always do the games for the team I am cursed to root for, the Lions. But to be ABC’s \*\* number one \*\* color man? Paired with \*\* Al Michaels \*\*? Doing a \*\* Super Bowl \*\*? Total mystery to me. Continuing the rant… I think that some of Boomer’s comments about McNair bordered on the racistly condescening. His crack that he used to dream about playing in the Superbowl while Al, his “good friend”,only dreamed about announcing it was boorish. Does he know football? Well, let’s see. He was a quarterback. Anyone know if there’s any history of quarterbacks dominating the field as coaches when they retire from active play? The modern quarterback doesn’t even call his own plays most of the time. He played for a team that was usually shitty, he got to the Superbowl once and lost and didn’t even come close to going back, I don’t know anyone outside of him who would even call him one of the top quarterbacks of his time. he’s got to trail Marino, Elway, Kelly, Montana, Young, probably Ken Anderson and Dan Fouts AND HE SOUNDS MORE AND MORE LIKE DIERDORF!!! What’s even worse is that I was at Maryland when he was playing. I would like to see a fellow alum do well–but as a commentator–he sucks. I used to hate DickDorff for the same reasons Boomer sucks. Stop fucking talking about yourselves–you’re not interesting and your insights are transparent. ---
