# Booze and hiccups

OK, I haven’t had a real vacation in a while, and am kinda drunk. I also have the hiccups. What is the reason for this?

WAG: Large amounts of booze cause the diaphragm to relax and spasm involuntarily?

Are(were) you drinking beer? If so, it’s the carbonation, like in Coca-Cola.

I’ve got the remedy for booze-induced hiccups: Light a match and put it out in a shot glass full of water, then drink the water. Sometimes I need to repeat this several times before it works, but usually it works the first time around.

I was drinking martinis, and good God I don’t even remember posting this. I’d still appreciate an answer, though.
