At least he found release. I was the only family there with him, at the end. Andy had stepped out to get a cigarette. I phoned him, but the elevators are darned hard to get, & the ICU is on Floor 8. I held his hand, & told him about how we all loved him. Last understandable words were “I know.” ---

That’s more than some people get at the end. Try to take comfort in that. You sound like you were a good son to him when it really counted. ---

Condolences to you and your family. I was with my mother when she died, and I did the same thing, saying over and over to her how much we all loved her. It seems so important to say that as they are going away. You must have been such a great comfort for your father in his last bit of time. ---
