Yeah I’m plugging through the first trimester and smoke would definately kill me… last time I went to a place that allowed smoking it took a week for my ears to unplug! I’d hardly want the whole party reorganized on my behalf… enjoy! ---

Would love to go … but I live 3000 miles away ☹ bf lives in Tanookie’s neck of the woods (even calls it by that name lol)… so I would kill to meet people and get a shag in as well… But the God’s are unkind to me _whine, bitch, moan_ … alas, no visit to Boston for some time to come… ---

Wow, **Morgainelf** - I almost ended up living in Methuen (Motherfu-en? Nah, that one’s no good)… I’m so glad I didn’t move there, if it’s as lousy as you suggest! Not sure what weekends I’ll have free, but I’ll wait and see what you all settle on, and then decide if I can make it. Can we give the Boston Mini-Dope a cool name? Some of the other places get funny names for their dopefests… Big Dig Dope Bean Dope Cream Pie Dope Hell, I’m out of ideas, now… ---

Of course, I’m probably the only potential attendee who would consider a non-smoking policy a negative. I can’t vouch for the high schools (Although Haverhell High is about to lose accreditation because the building is in such decay) but lets just say I grew up in Brockton… and we moved from there to here a year ago… and I consider this a huge step into hell. Moth-eew-en? I only know the hospital there and the Loop. Thank goodness for the Loop because I still can’t find my way to the Rockingham Mall. May I suggest the Chowdah Dope or the Doper’s Republic of Dinner? ---

I haven’t ever been to Haverhell (I’ve heard enough about it that I don’t feel I’m missing anything grand), but I’m well acquainted with Brockton… I didn’t think there _was_ anything worse than Brockton! ---

Picture an old shoe town with the industry all gone… about half the size of Brockton… with no money at all and certainly nothing to really draw people/industry that thinks of itself as still living in a Norman Rockwell-esque era. If I hear about John G Whittier one more freaking time I am going to vomit! (for reasons other than morning sickness 🙂 There also is not a decent pizza place anywhere. I was so desparate that my mom brought me Christo’s Pizza one day 🙂 Happy day for the taste buds! Oh and apparently run down empty buildings are supposed to be quaint! The onece a week newspaper likes to publish a lot of opinion pieces. [http://www.hgazette.com/](http://www.hgazette.com/) It is a painful read… especially the “lamp post” (written in the third person as if the lamp post was a person) May I quote the amazingly newsworthy lamp post? – "Many people have yet to take their Christmas decorations down and the Lamplighter wonders whether it is out of some deep need to hold onto the warmth of the holidays | or if people just haven’t been able to get at them because of the ice and snow around their houses. " Ok … bad tanookie… no more hijack of the nice thread… need to consider pitting this lovely town! ---

Or Holyoke. For that matter, Haverhill’s neighbor, Lawrence is MUCH worse than Haverhill. Sorry. I’ll try to restrain the impulse to hijack. ---

I guess this small hijack says a lot about why in the op she asks about the prospect of us being too stuck up or introverted since there aren’t a lot of BosDopeton parties… We’re not though… we’re ashamed! _averts eyes unless people see into my soul that I live in MA_ Oh and New Bedford has the oddest maze of the narrowest one way streets known to mankind. Yeah it could be worse… could live there or in Lawrence… must learn to be thankful that I’m not there! ---

It all depends on what your definition of “worse” really is. If it includes your chances of getting shot, robbed, carjacked, etc. then Brockton, Lawrence, and other places are far worse than Haverhill. If it includes your chances of getting the kinds of food that Tanookie is used then Haverhill is worse. 😉 I agree that Haverhill can be a bit hick (and I’m used to it since I grew up in Groveland) but there is some civilization around - you just need to go further for it. It seems that Haverhill’s obsession with Whittier translates into other obsessions for Brockton - like Marciano for example. 🙂 ---
