As has been noted, a company might only accept online applications, and if someone is living in her car or sleeping rough, then having an email address is a way of providing contact info. Being able to have such a contact might be the difference between getting a job and not getting one. I am all in favor of my tax dollars being used for free internet at the library. Hell, when my internet service was out, I’ve used the public library computers myself just to check in with people. And if someone uses the library internet to maybe get a little support from online friends, it might give her the courage to go on. ---

For example, I remember that the home she lost wasn’t an owned house with a ton of mortgage, it was shared housing. Look at threads she started and at her posts in the Mini-Rants threads. ---
