DQ in these threads doesn’t mean disqualified - it’s shorthand for “direct question.” The game works in two parts: indirect questions (IQs) and direct questions (DQs). Initially, everybody has to ask indirect questions. You think of somebody whose name begins with the appropriate letter and ask it. If you (the answerer) know the answer, you’d say “I’m not [fill in the blank].” If you don’t, then the questioner gets a DQ, which is a yes-or-no question. Questioners earn one DQ for every IQ that stumps the answerer. Convention is that we ask no more than three IQs at a time, and we often reserve DQs for later. Here are a couple of examples for the letter J. Example 1: The answerer knows the person referred to in the IQ: Questioner: Are you the lord and savior of one of the world’s major religions? Answerer: I’m not Jesus Christ. Example 2: the answerer does not know the person referred to in the IQ: Questioner: Did you and your brother lead a gang of outlaws in the old west? Answerer: You get a DQ. Questioner: That was Jesse James. ok, DQ: Are you male? Answerer: Yes, I’m male. A couple of conventions we’ve generally been using: We don’t ask more than 3 IQs at a time. DQs can be reserved if necessary (this happens most often when there are DQs pending, but it happens other times as well). DQs can be transferred (this generally happens late in a game when we’re close to stumped) The answerer posts a list of answered DQs. Have I missed anything?
