Read the gospel of St. Mark, 3:17, and you’ll find the quote _“James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John (to them, Jesus gave the name ‘Boanerges’, which means Sons of Thunder.”_ It’s not clear why they got this nickname, but there are a few gospel passages in which James and John are rebuked by Jesus for telling him he should rain down fire and lightning on some unbelieving town.
